Cross Country hosts Loyola Triangular Friday

The men’s and women’s cross country teams faced off against Dillard and Xavier Friday

MARRERO, La. – The Loyola Wolf Pack men's and women's cross country programs hosted the Loyola Triangular at the Parc des Familles in Marrero on Friday. The teams matched up against runners from Dillard and Xavier-Louisiana, facing crosstown NAIA rivals. The Loyola men competed in the 8-kilometer event with the Wolf Pack women racing in the 6-kilometer run. The women's team took first place ahead of Dillard for a score of 17, while the men's program finished first ahead of Dillard and Xavier with a score of 15.

 

The Pack will be back next weekend with the Nicholls State Invitational in Thibodaux, Louisiana. The teams will compete on Saturday, Sept. 27, starting at 8 a.m.

 

Meera Hijazi led the Wolf Pack women in her second meet with Loyola. The freshman ended the 16-runner 6-kilometer race in first place with a 24:49.6 time, the ninth-best mark in program history. With her performance on Friday, Hijazi is now the only current Loyola women's cross country runner with a top-10 individual record. Emma Meneses finished in second place with a 25:51.7 time, while Caitlyn Summers was third with a 26:20.4 time. Sophia Freeze and Sela Myers reached the finish line in fifth and sixth for times of 26:46.3 and 26:48.0, respectively. Andrea Bardales closed the race out, taking eighth place for a 27:41.6 time. 

 

Jace Luckoski claimed first place in Friday's 35-runner 8-kilometer contest, clocking a time of 26:13.7. Connor Meigs and Jacob Kennedy followed in second and third place, taking times of 26:22.0 and 26:42.6, respectively. Aubrey Gibson snagged fifth with a 27:12.8 time, before Adam Merkle and Daniel Miller ended the event in sixth and seventh place for times of 27:18.1 and 27:29.2, respectively. Carter Dural and Alastair Casler took eighth and ninth and notched times of 27:31.0 and 27:56.0. The trio of Cole Savoy, Jacob Mullis, and Elijah Reeves completed the race in 10th, 11th, and 12th, clocking times of 28:26.1, 28:28.7, and 28:33.4, respectively.

 

Drake Breland and Matthew Doland ended the 8-kilometer race in 14th and 16th, for times of 29:50.4 and 30:02.2. Chase Rogers, Landon Dixon, and David Lynn rounded out the top 20 finishers, taking 17th, 18th, and 19th, finishing with times of 30:19.9, 30:21.4, and 31:17.0, respectively. Evon Gocan and Bryce Darensbourg were next up, taking 21st and 22nd places, recording times of 31:22.9 and 31:34.7. Carter Scheuermann and Joseph Medina ended the day for the Pack, completing the event in 28th and 29th places for times of 32:16.4 and 32:46.5, respectively.
