The Loyola track and field programs traveled to Lake Charles Saturday, and multiple student-athletes etched their names in the school's record books
LAKE CHARLES, La.– For the first time this season, the Loyola Wolf Pack men's and women's track and field teams had a large group of student-athletes compete in an indoor meet, as the two programs traveled to Lake Charles, Louisiana, to participate in the McNeese State-hosted meet.
The highlights of the day came from Bryana Bazile in the shot put event and Braddock Lord in the 55-meter hurdles. Bazile now owns both the indoor and outdoor school records after Saturday, placing sixth out of 18 in the event with a toss of 12.14 meters. After claiming the school record in the 60-meter hurdles in the last indoor meet, Lord now has the school record in the 55-meter hurdles after running a time of 8.53. He finished third in Saturday's race.
Mykhala Coleman and Bailey Braud placed seventh and ninth with throws of 11.66 meters and 11.05 meters, respectively, and those two will go into the record books as the second- and third-best tosses in program history as well. In the weighted throw, Alyssia Ewing's throw of 12.14 meters also made it in the Top 5 in program history at third. In another field event, the high jump, Kaitlyn Becnel, placed fourth with a leap of 1.51 meters. While it wasn't her personal-best, which was set last year, the sophomore's jump was good for the fifth-best in program history.
A host of long-distance runners also notched times that's good enough for the program's record book. In the mile run, Madisyn Acosta's 5:42.60 and Amber Byrd's 5:48.40 were good enough for second and fifth in the Top 5. In the rarely run 600-meter race, Alyssa Salazar (1:49.81), Acosta (1:51.01), Jasmine Martinez (1:54.25) and Amber Byrd (1:58.04) all qualified for the second through fifth spots in the Top 5.
Two Loyola runners on the men's team also etched their names in the Wolf Pack record book, starting with Nicholas Solomon, who ran a 52.50 in the 400-meter dash. Solomon's time was good enough for second-fastest in Loyola indoor history, just .04 behind first place. Christian Hanson also ran a Top 5 time in the one-mile run, with his time of 4:34.01 putting him fifth. Hanson now owns two of the top five indoor times in the one-Mile, including the top spot, which he ran in 2020.
Solomon also competed in the triple jump, placing fifth with a jump of 41-2.25. As the first person in program history to compete in that indoor event, Solomon's leap sets the bar for the school record.
