Wolf Pack indoor track and field competes at LSU

The Loyola men's and women's indoor track and field programs had one more regular-season meet on Friday, taking part in the LSU Twilight

BATON ROUGE, La.– The Loyola Wolf Pack men's and women's track and field programs were in Baton Rouge on Friday, taking part in the LSU Twilight meet for the Wolf Pack's final regular-season meet of the indoor season. The Wolf Pack only brought a small group of student-athletes to LSU, but the two teams combined to have five performances that made new marks in the Loyola record books.

The field of participating programs was 13-deep, as the Wolf Pack went up against teams like LSU, Alabama, New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana.

For the women's team, Jasmine Martinez, Madisyn Acosta and Mykhala Coleman all produced Top 5 performances in Loyola's history. In the shot put event, Coleman recorded a throw of 12.39 meters, which is the second-best throw in school history. Coleman already had the third-best throw, so now the freshman has two of the five best shot put marks in school history. Martinez raced in the 800-meter run, placing fourth with a time of 2:32.84. That time is good for the third-best time in school history, too. Finally in the mile, Acosta, who already has the second-best time in school history, recorded the fourth-best time (5:47.35) in the program's record book to place seventh overall.

The men's team had a couple of notable performances, too, as Christian Hanson, once again, etched his name in the program's record books in the 800-meter race, while Nicholas Solomon continues to perform well in the jumping events, this time the long jump event. Hanson, who owns the school record in the 800 race, recorded the second-fastest time in school history on Friday, placing third with a time of 2:01.62. Solomon had already set the bar in the record book for the triple jump event earlier this season, and on Friday he notched the second-best jump in school history for the long jump, placing ninth with a 6.77-meter mark.

Bryana Bazile, who did not compete on Friday, is the only Wolf Pack track and field athlete to qualify for the NAIA Indoor National Championships, which is set for March 3-5 in Brookings, South Dakota. Bazile, a sophomore, will compete in the shot put event, qualifying with a school-record throw of 13.14 meters at last week's SSAC Championships.

The outdoor season is set to begin Friday, March 11, at the South Alabama Invitational.
