MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The No. 9 Loyola Wolf Pack women's tennis team won its third straight match on Friday at the SSAC Roundup, defeating Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College 7-0 at the Lagoon Park Tennis Complex.
Loyola (4-4, 2-0 SSAC) has won 7-0 in both of its matches at the SSAC Roundup this week. ABAC (0-12) was playing with just five players, giving the Wolf Pack wins at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.
The Pack got 6-1 wins at both of the top courts in doubles, with Micaela Ponce and Adele Fereres securing their fourth straight doubles win, and the freshmen Sofia Amodu and Presha Shanthamoorthi got their second of the week as Loyola swept doubles.
Amodu was perfect in singles, winning 6-0, 6-0 on court 5, and Shanthamoorthi only dropped one game, 6-1, 6-0 on court 4. Amodu is now 3-0 in singles this season, and Shanthamoorthi has won four in a row.
The match win was clinched by Adele Fereres, who stayed unbeaten on the year with a 6-2, 6-1 win. She also became the Wolf Pack's second player ever to reach 50 singles wins and now has a collegiate singles record of 50-17, including fall and spring matches.
Avery Frierson and Ponce both closed out the match with straight sets wins on the top two singles courts to complete the sweep.
The Wolf Pack will go for its fourth straight win on Saturday, closing out the SSAC Roundup at 10 a.m. with a match against Tennessee Southern.
