No. 9 Loyola cruises against Blue Mountain Christian

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Loyola Wolf Pack swept Blue Mountain Christian University 7-0 to begin the SSAC Roundup on Thursday. 

This is the second consecutive win for Loyola, which improved to 3-4 on the season. Blue Mountain, which entered with a winning record, falls to 4-4. 

The freshman pair of Presha Shanthamoorthi and Sofia Amodu picked up their first win together this season, 6-2 on court 2, to open the match. Avery Frierson and Juliette Finch then clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 on court 3. Micaela Ponce and Adele Fereres won their third straight match, 6-3 on court 1, to close out doubles.

Ponce became the third player in program history to reach 50 doubles wins at Loyola, joining Lucy Carpenter and Fatima Vasquez. 

Fereres was the first player to finish in singles, breezing through her court 3 match 6-1, 6-0 to remain undefeated this season (4-0) in singles. Amodu was next, 6-0, 6-1 on court 6, and Avrora Volkova earned Loyola's third singles point, 6-0, 6-3, to clinch the match. 

The Wolf Pack also picked up straight-set singles wins from Shanthamoorthi, Frierson, and Ponce to complete the sweep. 

Loyola still has two more matches in Montgomery this week. Next up is Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, which the Wolf Pack will face on Friday at 2 p.m. at Lagoon Park Tennis Complex.
