No. 9 Loyola goes 3-0 at SSAC Tennis Roundup

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Loyola Wolf Pack women's tennis team finished up the SSAC Roundup on Saturday with its fourth consecutive win, sweeping the Tennessee Southern Firehawks 7-0 at the Lagoon Park Tennis Center.

Loyola (5-4, 2-1 SSAC) won all three of its matches at the Roundup and is over .500 for the first time this season. The Pack won all three matches in the conference weekend 7-0. 

The Wolf Pack continued strong doubles play on Saturday, sweeping all three doubles matches. 

Avery Frierson and Juliette Finch got the match started with a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles, and the duo only dropped two total games in the week. Presha Shanthamoorthi and Sofia Amodu then teamed up for their third straight win at No. 2 doubles, 6-2. 

Micaela Ponce and Adele Fereres then finished up doubles with a 6-4 win, their fifth in a row. After collecting her 50th career singles win on Friday, Fereres joined Ponce, Fatima Vasquez, and Lucy Carpenter on Saturday as the only Wolf Pack players with 50 doubles wins. 

Loyola put up a dominant performance in singles competition. Amodu and Avrora Volkova both won 6-0, 6-0 in their matches on courts 6 and 5. Avery Frierson was close to perfect in her match on court 2, 6-1, 6-0, to clinch the match for the Pack. Fereres, Ponce, and Shanthamoorthi also earned straight-sets wins to close out the 7-0 sweep. 

The Wolf Pack women's team will return home for two contests next week at the City Park Tennis Center, the first of which is on Wednesday, a ranked matchup against Louisiana Christian, which jumped up three spots to No. 15 in the most recent NAIA poll.
