Spring Hill hands Loyola beach volleyball first loss

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Loyola Wolf Pack beach volleyball wrapped up the season-opening Badger Beach Bash in Gulf Shores on Saturday with a match against hosts Spring Hill College. After the Pack won two matches Friday, the Badgers won 5-0 Saturday to bring Loyola's record to 2-1 on the season. 

Spring Hill, which started the year with losses against NCAA No. 6 Florida State and No. 8 LSU, is an undefeated 3-0 against opponents outside of NCAA Division I. 

The Badgers won every match against the Wolf Pack in straight sets.

The Wolf Pack will return to Gulf Shores in a week to begin conference play, with three Sun Conference matches being held next weekend. The Pack will face Florida Memorial at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 7, followed by a match against St. Thomas (Fla.), with a 9 a.m. match against conference champions Ave Maria closing out the weekend on Saturday.

"We can't allow a loss against Spring Hill to affect our mentality, because they're a really good team, and they just played against the number 6 and number 8 teams in the nation. We have to learn from it, grow from it, and stay focused on our ultimate plan and goals. Overall, this was a really great start for the program. We beat a really good Berry team and a really good Huntingdon team, and it helped us get prepared to start conference next week."
