Robert Pitre was chosen to head the Wolf Pack beach volleyball program when it began official competition with the 2023 season. He came to Loyola as an assistant coach with the Wolf Pack's indoor volleyball team in 2019 and was named head coach of the indoor team after the 2024 season. 

In the beach program's first year of official competition, Pitre led the Wolf Pack to the semifinals at the Sun Conference Championship tournament and an overall 10-16 record, one of just five teams in the conference to post double-digit wins. The Pack then finished the 2024 conference schedule tied for the third best record in the Sun at 7-3, though the team posted a 9-14 overall record for the year. 

The Pack's first year over .500 came in 2025, when Loyola once again finished in the top three in the conference. The Wolf Pack went 15-6 overall and made the semifinals of the Sun Conference tournament. Loyola also led the Sun in All-Conference selections, with eight student-athletes making the First or Second Team. 

Pitre began his coaching career in 2014 serving as head coach of Webfoot Juniors in Eugene, Oregon, sending 10 of 12 players on his 2017 roster to play collegiately, while also working as an assistant coach for Northwest Christian College. He returned to his hometown of Waveland, Mississippi, in 2018 and became the Director of Beach Volleyball for Mississippi Gulf Coast Volleyball Club, as well as being named assistant coach for the Wolf Pack. At MGCVC, he trained nearly 70 high school athletes resulting in a 200 percent increase in membership, and his importance at Loyola proved true when he was named Assistant Coach of the Year by the Southern States Athletic Conference and American Volleyball Coaches Association Northeast Region in 2021. 

Pitre, his wife Kelly, and their son Eli reside in Waveland, Mississippi.
