ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Loyola Wolf Pack men's tennis team began their weekend at the LSU Alexandria Invitational with a match against Texas Wesleyan on Friday.
In a match where every singles court played to a deciding third set, the Wolf Pack fell 4-3 against the Rams. Loyola now sits at 2-4 overall with another match coming up on Saturday.
The match began on a high note for the Pack after the team secured the doubles point. Hippolyte de Preville and Theo Debackere got things started with a 6-2 win on Court 3, the duo's second win of the year, followed by Remus Hebhang-Balan and Herman Aure claiming the doubles point for the Pack with another 6-2 win on Court 2.
Loyola built a 2-1 lead in the match after Francisco Javier Arce Vieyra earned his first singles win of the year at the No. 1 spot (6-3, 3-6, 6-2). Then on courts 2 and 3, Hebhang-Balan and Debackere won their first sets but the Rams fought back to take both matches, taking a 3-2 lead in the match.
The Wolf Pack tied things up again as de Preville similarly lost the first set but battled back to win his match on Court 5 (3-6, 6-2, 6-4). The match then came down to the result on Court 6, where Herman Aure took the first set but was bested in three sets.
Playing two matches at the invitational, Loyola will face Our Lady of the Lake on Saturday for a match scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
