Sophomore Bryana Bazile earned the SSAC Field Athlete of the Week title for the first time of her career on Tuesday
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Sophomore track and field athlete Bryana Bazile owns three school records and she's competed in two NAIA National Championships with her third national competition on the horizon later this month. On Tuesday, she's added to her list of career accomplishments by winning this week's Southern States Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week award.
Bazile and the Wolf Pack are competing in post-SSAC Championships meets until the NAIA National Championships later this month, and the team took part in Mississippi College's Mike McMillan Twilight Invitational last Friday. Bazile placed first in the discus and second in the shot put to bolster her case for the SSAC weekly award.
The Houston, Texas, native recorded a throw of 40.11 meters in the discus to win the event, as she beat competitors from Mississippi College, Belhaven University and three of her Loyola teammates. Her effort of 12.63 meters in the shot put competition was good enough for second overall and the fifth-best throw in school history as well. Bazile has already qualified for the NAIA National Championship in the discus event, and she's .11 meters away from doing the same in shot put.
Loyola is next set to compete this Friday at the University of Houston's Tom Tellez Invitational.
