Madisyn Acosta, Bryana Bazile and Kaitlyn Becnel will all compete at next week's NAIA National Championships in Gulf Shores, Alabama
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced its Qualifiers for the 2022 Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Friday, and three Wolf Pack student-athletes were among those listed for next week's championship. Bryana Bazile qualified for her second straight outdoor championship, also competing in this year's indoor championship, while it's Madisyn Acosta and Kaitlyn Becnel's first time at the event.
Bazile is set to participate in the discus event once again, and she's set to compete on Friday, May 27, at 1 p.m., and Becnel will compete in the high jump that same day at 2 p.m. Acosta, who raced, in the NAIA Women's Cross Country National Championship last semester, will run in the 1,500-meter preliminaries at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25. The final for that event is set for 3 p.m. on Friday.
Bazile enters the national championship with a 43.18-meter qualifying mark at the Louisiana Classics in March, which is a school record for the discus throw. She now owns three of the best throws in school history, too, and she placed 11th nationally at last year's national championship with a throw of 41.70 meters.
Becnel's personal-record jump of 1.64 meters at the SSAC Championship in April earned her spot in the national championship field, and that was the second-best jump in school history. She has four of the five best jumps in program history to her name as well.
Acosta set the school record in two long-distance races this season, and her 4:43.27 time in the 1,500-meter run at the Mike McMillan Twilight in April got her a spot in the national meet. She has the second- and third-best times in program history, as well as the school record in the 5,000-meter race.
