Women's Outdoor Track and Field

Becnel, Bazile represent Loyola at National Championship Friday

The Wolf Pack women's track and field had two more student-athletes compete at the NAIA Outdoor National Championship on Friday

GULF SHORES, Ala. Bryana Bazile made her second appearance at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championship and Kaitlyn Becnel made her debut on Friday, as they made it a total of three Wolf Pack track and field student-athletes to compete in Gulf Shores, Alabama, this week. Bazile competed in the discus throw and Becnel participated in the high jump, as Bazile placed 15th and Becnel took 18th in the national championship field. Both earned spots in the Top 5 of Loyola's record books, too.

Bazile's had a fault on her first attempt, but then completed throws of 39.85 meters and 42.27 meters in her next two attempts. Her last toss was good enough to place 15th out of 30 competitors, but it wasn't enough to advance to the final round. The 42.27 meters was also the fourth-best throw in Loyola's history.

Becnel tied her personal record of 1.64 meters in the high jump competition, which was the second-best jump in school history, to place 18th out of 28. The sophomore cleared 1.59 meters and 1.64 meters, both on the last attempt, but couldn't clear the 1.67-meter attempt, which would have been a school record.
