Junior Madisyn Acosta has now been named the Southern States Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week for the second straight week and the third time this track and field season
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Madisyn Acosta has now broken school records for two consecutive weekends, and now she's been named the Southern States Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week for the second straight week as well.
Tuesday's honor marks the third SSAC Track Athlete of the Week award for Acosta this season, too, and after last week's performance in Nacogdoches, Texas, she now has four school records to her name between the indoor and outdoor track and field record books. She was previously named the Indoor Track Athlete of the Week in February to go along with these last two weeks of outdoor honors.
The Wolf Pack track and field teams competed at the Carl Knight Invitational over the weekend, and Acosta took part in the 5,000-meter run. The New Orleans native recorded a time of 17:42.92 to place fifth in the race, and that time was more than a minute better than the previous school record of 18:49.43. More impressively, Acosta's previous personal best was 19.08.27, which was the fourth-best time in program history prior to last weekend.
Acosta now has the school records in that event, the outdoor 1,500-meter run, the indoor 3,000-meter run, and the indoor 4x800-meter relay.
The Wolf Pack track and field teams have one more regular-season meet left on the schedule before the SSAC Championships April 22-23. The two Loyola teams will compete at the Strawberry Relays this Saturday in Hammond, Louisiana.
