Meral wins third career tournament

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Loyola Wolf Pack senior Sarah Meral finished off a career-best tournament outing on Tuesday by claiming her third career individual medalist honors at the Carey Collegiate. She's now tied for second all-time in program history with three tournament wins. 
 

Meral shot a third-round 72 on Tuesday to run away with first place. She started the round tied for first with Lindsey Wilson's Vu Hoang Anh Nguyen, but by the day's end, she won the tournament by five strokes. She finished the William Carey-hosted event with a 54-hole tournament score of 217 (+1) after rounds of 75 (+3) and 70 (-2) on Monday. Meral's tournament score is also the third-best 54-hole score in program history. 
 

The Abita Springs, Louisiana, native started her third round on the 12th tee and recorded pars on her first four holes before a birdie on the par-3 16th. After a bogey on the 18th hole, she sat at even par through 10 holes. Shje carded three birdies and a bogey during her next four holes, then added two more pars to go into her final two holes at 2-under. She found some trouble on the par-4 10th, but she split the fairway and hit the green on her final hole, needing just a tap-in par to finish off her win. 
 

Alice Bille was next on the individual leaderboard in 26th place (+30), followed by Evie Sisk in 30th (+34), Kayla Lancaster in 33rd (+35), and Shauna Seifried in 35th (+46). 
 

As a team, the 18th-ranked Wolf Pack placed fifth (+97)  out of the seven competing teams. No. 13 Lindsey Wilson won the tournament with a total score of 889 (+35), and No. 3 Dalton State (+49), No. 9 William Carey (+49) and No. 14 Cumberland (+79) followed.
