Meral tied for the lead at Carey Collegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Loyola University New Orleans women's golf team is once again going up against a strong field, this time at the Carey Collegiate in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Ranked 18th in the NAIA, Loyola is the lowest ranked team in the field behind No. 3 Dalton State, No. 9 William Carey, No. 13 Lindsey Wilson and No. 14 Cumberland. 
 

Lindsey Wilson sits atop the team leaderboard with a tournament score of 598 (+22), followed by William Carey (+28), Dalton State (+32), Cumberland (+57) and Loyola (+62). SSAC rivals Blue Mountain (+80) and Mobile (+152) are also competing in the tournament. 
 

Sarah Meral highlighted the day by finishing the first 36 holes in a tie for the lead at one-over-par. She fired a first-round 75 (+3) then backed that up with a second-round 70 (-2) to record a 145 two-round total. Meral and Lindsey Wilson's Vu Hoang Anh Nguyen are both two strokes ahead of the next golfer on the individual leaderboard. 
 

Meral started her day on the fifth hole and proceeded to par 14 straight holes to start off her first round. Three bogeys and another par would round-out her round, though, putting her in the Top 5 of the individual leaderboard. She started her afternoon round with a birdie before moving to 1-over after 11 holes. She made an eagle on the par-5 18th hole, which was her 14th hole of the day, by reaching the green in two and making a 40-foot putt. Another birdie and three more pars finished her 2-under round. 
 

Evie Sisk is next for the Wolf Pack in a tie for 21st (+15). She had a great start to her day with 10 pars and a birdie through her first 11 holes, finishing her first round with a 76 (+4) score. An 83 in the afternoon, however, would move her down the leaderboard. Alice Bille had rounds of 87 and 78 to finish Day 1 in 28th place (+21), followed by Kayla Lancaster in 31st (+25) and Shauna Seifried in 36th (+30).
