ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Loyola University New Orleans produced its third-fastest time in the men's 4x400 relay and placed 18th on Thursday in the preliminaries of the NAIA Track and Field Outdoor National Championships.
Â
The time was 3:14.40 for the Wolf Pack's Caleb Curry, Ollie Brumfield IV, Landon Dixon, and Jermaine McGhee — 36 hundredths of a second behind the program's new-era record set in 2025 and 2.82 seconds from qualifying for Friday's final.
Â
Loyola was seventh in its heat after the first lap, but Brumfield's 46.93 in the second lap — one second faster than the school record he set in March in the open 400 — moved the Wolf Pack to second place. Loyola was third through three laps before finishing fifth.Â
Â
Cumberlands (Ky.) won the heat in 3:09.60, and Xavier (New Orleans) and Indiana Tech led all qualifiers with 3:09.42.Â
Â
The meet was delayed approximately 2 1/2 hours because of lightning in the area. Loyola was in the fourth and final relay heat and did not race until 11:25 p.m. EDT.
Â
The Wolf Pack's lone woman qualifier, Tenosh Landry, will compete against 22 athletes in the high jump at 2 p.m. EDT Friday, the final day of the meet.Â
Â
Loyola's other event was the men's 400 hurdles, where Curry placed 10th in the preliminaries on Wednesday with a Wolf Pack-record 52.22.
