Wolf Pack esports sees season end

NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola University New Orleans esports team lost in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate NACE playoffs this week, ending its season with a 6-3 record. Loyola won its first-round matchup against Lawrence Tech (Mich.), 2-0, last week before losing to Stony Brook (N.Y.), 2-0, on Thursday. 
 

In the matchup against LTU, Anthony Nodolski, playing as Olimar, started the first crew battle with a 3-1 win over the Hero fighter. After Falco defeated Nodolski, Malachi Lee, playing as Terry, took out the next two LTU competitors before Samuel Spiegel, playing as Steve, finished off Lawrence Tech's Bayonetta fighter. The second crew battle started with Spiegel taking out Sephiroth and Lee defeating Ridley. Lucian Payne got a win over LTU's Zero Suit Samus, and Nodolski closed things out by beating Bayonetta. 
 

It was a different story against Stony Brook, however. Playing against STU's highly ranked Steve fighter, all four players were defeated quickly in the first crew battle. Spiegel, playing as Roy, was able to eliminate Steve in the second crew battle, but Stony Brook's Min Min fighter finished off the match.
