Wolf Pack sweeps two home beach matches

KENNER, La. – The Loyola Wolf Pack beach volleyball team hosted its first home matches of the season on Friday at Coconut Beach against Truett McConnell University and Spartanburg Methodist College, both Sun Conference opponents.

 

Despite battling injury, the Wolf Pack (8-3, 5-2 SUN) won both matches 5-0. Loyola has now racked up four different 5-0 sweeps in conference play. 

 

The first match of the evening was against Truett McConnell. The first match to finish was the exhibition with Zoe Barnes and Lola Blancher, who teamed up to win 21-12, 21-6 on court 6. Samantha Guillotte and Kiarelis Martinez collected their ninth win of the season at the No. 2 spot, 21-14, 21-14. 

 

Amaya Bazemore and Isabella Rodrigue also continued their hot streak, winning 21-10, 21-19, before improving to 8-0 overall with a straight-sets win later in the day against Spartanburg Methodist. 

 

Madeline Corrall and Kala Emanuelli won their match against TMU 21-14, 21-8, later earning a 21-13, 21-15 result against the Pioneers to improve to 5-4 on the season. Isis Harink and Juliet Petruzelli won their fourth match of the season, 21-15, 21-10 on court 3. Harink then teamed up with Martinez in the second match, while Petruzelli went with Barnes, and both pairs won in straight sets. 

 

The No. 5 pair stayed the same through both matches: Mary Dinegar and Belén Puche Laguna. They won 21-18, 21-16 in the first match and 21-10, 21-16 in the second to finish the day 2-0.

 

Loyola will close out the weekend with a match on Saturday against Brenau (Ga.). The match is scheduled to start at noon at Coconut Beach, with a Senior Day celebration taking place before the match.
