Wolf Pack tennis teams compete in exhibitions against MGCCC

PERKINSTON, Miss. – The Loyola Wolf Pack men's and women's tennis teams had one last tune-up before the first official matches of the 2026 schedule, with both teams defeating Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Thursday in exhibition matches.

The Loyola women earned a 6-1 exhibition win after sweeping the doubles point and winning six of the seven singles matches. The men also earned the doubles point, winning two out of four doubles matches, before winning four singles matches to earn the match victory, 5-2. 

Adele Fereres and Micaela Ponce won 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, with Sofia Amodu and Avery Frierson also winning by a healthy margin, 6-2 on the No. 3 court. Presha Shanthamoorthi and Avrora Volkova made it a doubles sweep with a tiebreak victory, 7-6 (7-3) on court 2. 

In men's doubles, Sam Izrael and Alfredo Gallegos led with a 6-1 win at the top spot, while Martin Ashworth and Jett Nguyen earned a 6-2 victory on court 3 as the Pack took doubles. 

Frierson, Fereres, Shanthamoorthi, and Volkova all earned straight-sets victories in women's singles, with Juliette Finch also adding a comeback victory in three sets (2-6, 6-2, 7-5). Bianca Harris also won her exhibition singles match, 6-2, 6-2. 

Men's singles saw Gallegos, Hippolyte de Preville, Samuel Motazed, and Spencer Matz all pick up straight-sets victories. 

Both men's and women's Wolf Pack tennis teams will officially open the 2026 season on Tuesday, February 3, with matches against Xavier University of Louisiana at the XULA Tennis Center. The women's match is scheduled to begin at noon, with the men's match following.
