THIBODAUX, La. – The Loyola Wolf Pack women's tennis team took part in the 2026 NAIA ITA Gulf Regional Championships over the weekend at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex. Loyola was one of seven teams in the women's competition, joining other New Orleans schools Dillard and Xavier as well as William Carey, LSU Alexandria, Our Lady of the Lake, and Texas A&M Texarkana.
Three returners participated for the Pack: senior Avrora Volkova and sophomores Presha Shanthamoorthi and Sofia Amodu, while Miranda Gomez made her Wolf Pack debut.
Shanthamoorthi and Amodu led Loyola's results, with both players earning victories in singles and teaming up for another win in the doubles draw.
The sophomores received an opening-round bye in doubles before earning a solid 8-3 win over Dillard's team of Rand Najjar and Giselle Herrera. They later fell 8-5 against Texarkana's team of Kseniya Zhdanok and Lucia Siddens in the quarterfinal.
In singles, Amodu opened the tournament with a three-set victory against Xavier's Sanai Lesure. After dropping the first set, Amodu rallied for a 4-6, 7-5, 10-7 win to advance. Her run ended in the following match after a retirement in the second round.
Shanthamoorthi received an opening-round bye before defeating Dillard's Herrera in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. She then fell in the Round of 16 to Xavier's Asadah Ma'at, who won the doubles tournament.
Volkova dropped her singles match against Our Lady of the Lake freshman Juliette Malassigne, and they matched up again in doubles, with Gomez joining Volkova on Loyola's side. The match was close, but the OLLU pair won 8-6.
Loyola's women's team is set to the court on October 30 for the George E. Fourmaux Fed Cup Invitational, closing out the fall schedule in Hammond, Louisiana, at Southeastern Louisiana's Tennis Complex.
