Loyola esports starts SSBU season 2-0

NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola Wolf Pack won another Sun Conference matchup on Wednesday, making it 10 straight dating back to two seasons ago after a 2-0 victory over Warner University (Fla.). 
 

Loyola is now 2-0 this season with a match against Texas A&M-Texarkana set for next week. 
 

A crew battle consists of four players from each team with three stocks apiece. Each team plays one player at a time until all three stocks are lost. The stocks lost carry over to each head-to-head matchup until all four players from one team lose their three stocks.
 

Leyton Gould, as Sonic, began the first crew battle, and he took down all four Warner players without losing his three stocks. Gould defeated Jigglypuff 3-0 before losing just one stock to Link in the second fight. Then, Gould beat Pokémon Trainer, 3-0, and Little Mac, 3-1, to put Loyola up 1-0 in the match. 
 

Loyola faced a little more adversity in the second crew battle. Lily Neeley, as Lucina, was defeated 3-2 in the first match. Lucian Payne, as Wolf, finished off Warner's first competitor before taking two stocks against Warner's Pokémon Trainer. Gould took care of the second Warner player without losing a stock, however, Warner's Link won the next match, 3-0. Playing as Snake, Malachi Lee, defeated Link, 3-2, and needed to beat Jigglypuff 3-0 to not allow a third and deciding crew battle. He did just that to complete the sweep. 
 

Loyola still hasn't dropped a crew battle since March 19, 2024.
