HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Loyola Wolf Pack men's golf team played the first round of the FHU Fall Invitational on Monday, and the team carded a 306 (+18) to sit in sixth place out of 11 teams. Loyola is just nine strokes from a Top 3 position, as Bethel (Tenn.) leads the field with a 1-under score, followed by Mars Hill (N.C) and Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) tied for second place at 9-over.
Freshman Arsenios Kalogerakis began his collegiate career with a 2-over, 74 on Monday. He was four-over after eight holes, then carded three birdies over the next five holes to get back down to 1-over through 13 holes. Kalogerakis finished his round with four pars and a bogey to sit in 13th place on the individual leaderboard.
Sophomore Peter Weirich finished two strokes behind his teammate in 21st place, shooting a first-round 76 (+4). He started his day with a birdie on the opening hole before finishing with 11 more pars and five bogeys. Freshman Miles Russell had an eagle on his card, but he and fellow first-year Wolf Pack student-athlete Leon Mishkin both ended Day 1 in 30th place with scores of 78 (+6) each. Cristobal Salome rounds out Loyola's scoring with an 81 (+9) to sit in 42nd place.
The tournament will wrap up with the second and final round on Tuesday.
