ELMWOOD, La. – The Loyola Wolf Pack beach volleyball team hosted its only home matches of the season on Saturday, taking on No. 6 Mobile and William Carey at the White Sands Volleyball Courts.
Â
Entering the day, all three teams had a shot at the Sun Conference regular season title, but it was Mobile who captured the crown after taking matches against both Loyola and Carey on Saturday and finishing undefeated in conference play. The Rams won 4-1 against the Crusaders and 3-2 against the Wolf Pack, though Loyola was able to split the matches and end the regular season with a 4-1 win against William Carey.Â
Â
Heading into next week's Sun Conference Beach Volleyball Championship, Loyola has a 12-5 overall record, 9-3 in conference play. The Pack will be the third seed in the tournament, beginning tournament action against sixth-seeded New College of Florida on Friday, April 11, at 11 a.m. Loyola previously swept the Mighty Banyans 5-0 in their earlier meeting this season. With a win in the first match, the Pack would advance to face the winner of No. 2 seed Webber International vs. No. 7 seed Ave Maria with a spot in the semifinal on the line.
Â
Senior Rosemary Vanney Lane went 2-0 on Senior Day playing with Samantha Guillotte. They dropped the first set against Mobile but forced a deciding third set and ran away with it, 15-8, then won in straight sets against William Carey. The Wolf Pack's No. 2 pair has the most wins of any Loyola pair this season at 13-4, including 10-2 in conference matches.Â
Â
Reigning Sun Conference Pair of the Week at the No. 4 position, Amaya Bazemore and Isabella Rodrigue also went 2-0 in Saturday's doubleheader. They won both matches in straight sets, and the second set of each match was won 21-12.Â
Â
Bazemore and Rodrigue are now 12-5 on the No. 4 court this season, tying the No. 1 pair of Madeline Corrall and Kala Emanuelli for the second-most wins on the team. Both are also 9-3 in conference matches. Corrall and Emanuelli lost a close one to Mobile's top pair before closing out the day with a win against Carey. Juliet Petruzelli and Mary Dinegar also won their match against the Crusaders in three sets and improved to 10-5 on the season, becoming the fourth Wolf Pack pair to reach the 10-win mark.Â
