Beach volleyball sweeps Friday doubleheader

LAURINBURG, N.C. – A Sun Conference doubleheader on Friday couldn't have gone much better for the No. 9 Loyola Wolf Pack beach volleyball team, as the Pack earned a pair of 5-0 victories over Spartanburg Methodist and Brenau. 

Loyola has continued to be one of the best teams in the Sun Conference, which has three teams ranked in the NAIA top 10, with two more on the outskirts of the rankings. The Wolf Pack's record now stands at 9-2 this season, 7-1 in conference matches.

The No. 3 pair of Mary Dinegar and Juliet Petruzelli kept up their winning streak with two straight-sets victories and have now won six matches in a row. They're now 7-1 in conference play and 8-3 overall, as is the No. 4 pair of Amaya Bazemore and Isabella Rodrigue. 

The No. 1 pair, Madeline Corrall and Kala Emanuelli, and the No. 2 pair, Samantha Guillotte and Rosemary Vanney Lane, also improved to 8-3 on the season with couple wins Friday. 

The No. 5 pair of Belén Puche Laguna and Kiarelis Martinez had the most lopsided win of the day: 21-8, 21-6 against Brenau. After two wins Friday, Puche and Martinez are 7-4 this season and have won three straight. 

The Pack will play two more Sun Conference matches this weekend. Saturday's doubleheader begins with Truett McConnell at noon, then Loyola will play host St. Andrews at 6 p.m.
