Wolf Pack splits Sun Conference matches Saturday

BABSON PARK, FLA. – The Loyola Wolf Pack beach volleyball team played two matches against preseason top-four teams in the Sun Conference on Saturday in a pod hosted by Webber International. The Pack picked up a 4-1 win before falling 3-2 against Webber, the No. 6 team in the NAIA and reigning SUN tournament champions. 

Loyola is still one of the top teams in the conference so far this season, with a 5-1 mark in Sun Conference matches and a 7-2 overall record. 

The No. 3 Wolf Pack pair of Mary Dinegar and Juliet Petruzelli won their matches against Webber and Warner on Saturday, with both wins coming in straight sets. They're on a four-match winning streak, with two of those wins coming against ranked teams. Belén Puche Laguna and Kiarelis Martinez got the other win against Webber, pulling away in the third set. 

In the Warner match, the Pack got straight-sets wins at flights 2 (Samantha Guillotte and Rosemary Vanney Lane), 3 (Dinegar and Petruzelli), and 4 (Amaya Bazemore and Isabella Rodrigue). 

The court 1 duo of Madeline Corrall and Kala Emanuelli dropped their first set against Warner but came back to win the next two. Against Webber, Corrall and Emanuelli again forced a third set but couldn't come out on top. 

Loyola will travel to Laurinburg, N.C. next weekend for three more Sun Conference matches. The Pack will face Spartanburg Methodist and Brenau (Ga.) on Friday, March 21, before playing Truett McConnell next Saturday.
