Beach volleyball sweeps New College of Florida

BABSON PARK, FLA. – The Loyola Wolf Pack beach volleyball team continued its strong start to the season, defeating the New College of Florida Mighty Banyans 5-0 on Friday to improve to 6-1 on the season. Loyola has won all four of its Sun Conference matches up to this point, with two of those coming in 5-0 sweeps. 

Friday's match was anything but easy, however, as four of the five flights went to a deciding third set, and the Banyans took the first set in all four of those matches. 

The lone match to be won in straight sets was the court five matchup, where Belén Puche Laguna and Kiarelis Martinez earned a 21-13, 21-19 result.

The Banyans won a long first set on court 1, 28-26, but Kala Emanuelli and Madeline Corrall came back to win the next two 21-13, 15–12 to improve to 5-2 as a pair this season. 

Rosemary Vanney Lane and Samantha Guillotte dropped a close first set 23-21 but won the next two 21-15, 15-13. Amaya Bazemore and Isabella Rodrigue fell 21-16 in the opening set but won the following two 21-13, 15-11. Both pairs now have 5-2 records this season. 

On court 3, a 37-minute first set saw Juliet Petruzelli and Mary Dinegar lose 21-18, but they bounced back in the final two sets, 21-13, 15-9 to come away with the win. The Petruzelli/Dinegar and Puche/Martinez pairs both have 4-3 records this season. 

Two tough matches await the Wolf Pack on Saturday, as Loyola will close out the weekend with a 2 p.m. match against Warner University and a 4 p.m. match against NAIA No. 6 Webber International. Both of Saturday's opponents were picked among the top four teams in the Sun Conference preseason poll.
