Beach volleyball wins two to begin 2025

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Loyola Wolf Pack beach volleyball team started the 2025 season off the right way, winning two matches against NCAA Division-III schools Friday as part of Spring Hill College's Badger Beach Bash in Gulf Shores, Ala. The Pack defeated Berry College 3-2 and Huntingdon College 4-1 to start the season 2-0. 

Loyola will play its last match of the Spring Hill tournament against the host school. The match against the Badgers is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. in Gulf Shores. 

The Wolf Pack's first point in Friday's doubleheader came on court 5, where Kiarelis Martinez and Belén Puche Laguna dropped the first set but battled back to win the next two. Berry got wins on courts 2 and 3, but Samantha Guillotte and Rosemary Vanney Lane, two All-Conference selections last year, secured a straight-sets victory to tie the match at 2-2. 

Loyola's No. 1 duo in 2023, Madeline Corrall and Kala Emanuelli, teamed up again on court 1 on Friday, and they were the ones to clinch the first victory of the day for the Pack. They toughed out a 25-23 first set, lost the second, then came back to win the third 15-10 and give the Pack a 3-2 match win. 

Amaya Bazemore and Isabella Rodrigue came back from down a set to claim their first win, as well as the first for the Wolf Pack in the second match Huntingdon. Loyola also earned straight-sets victories at the top three flights, with Juliet Petruzelli and Mary Dinegar clinching the match for the Pack. 

This was Loyola beach volleyball's first time winning its first two matches in a season.
