NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola Wolf Pack men's golf team stayed close to home this week for their second tournament of the spring season. The Pack is playing in the University of New Orleans' Gulf Coast Collegiate at English Turn Golf Club, and Day 1 of the tournament was cut short due to darkness. The field is made up of mostly NCAA Division I programs, as the Wolf Pack sits in 14th out of 18 teams on the team leaderboard.
After a rain-soaked morning, Loyola's team scores improved in the afternoon before the stoppage of play. Arthur Mijic leads the Wolf Pack and sits in 24th place with his second round ending with two holes remaining. He started the day with a first-round 76 (+4) before finishing the day 1-under through 16 holes to move to 3-over for the tournament. Cristobal Salome matched his teammate with a 4-over first round, and he was playing even better during his afternoon round. He ended the second round 2-over through 16 to sit 6-over for the tournament and in 48th place.
Peter Weirich rebounded nicely in the afternoon after a 10-over first round. He's currently 2-over through 16 holes, which is positioned 74th (+12) on the individual leaderboard. Michael Bullock is next in 88th place (+16). He had a first-round 82 and is 6-over through 13 holes for his second round. Cole Haase shot a first-round 79 (+7), but his second-round scores weren't available.
The 95-man field will resume the second round Tuesday morning, followed by the final 18 holes.
