Sun Conference Smash Bros. wins fifth straight

NEW ORLEANS – The Wolf Pack esports program played the fifth match of the Super Smash Bros. team's Sun Conference schedule on Wednesday night. The Wolf Pack remain undefeated through five games after defeating Southeastern (Fla.) in a 2-0 sweep.

The Maroon and Gold will return to competition in a NACE Premier double-header with a 6:00 p.m. matchup against Minnesota State Mankato on Wednesday, Feb. 26. The Wolf Pack will end Wednesday's double-header with a matchup against Texas A&M International at 7:30 p.m.

Malachi Lee began Wednesday's contest by defeating three opponents in Ike, Mr. Game & Watch, and Inkling (3-0, 3-1, 3-1). The sophomore's Mii Gunner fell to Southeastern's R.O.B., 1-2, but not before Lee left the opponents with one fighter. Lucian Payne's Wolf ended the first crew battle, trading stocks with R.O.B. to get the win, 1-0.

The Southeastern Fire came away with a win against Anthony Nodolski in an Inkling-on-Inkling matchup, 3-1. As Lee did in the first set, Samuel Spiegel's Steve took down three consecutive opponents to get the Wolf Pack one win away from a match victory. SEU's R.O.B. took Spiegel's last stock, then defeated Lily Neeley's Lucina, 3-1. Loyola's Kazuya ended the match, however, putting a seal on the win for the undefeated Wolf Pack.
