Loyola Smash Bros. wins fifth straight Thursday

NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola University New Orleans Esports program continued its undefeated streak in NACE competition for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The Wolf Pack defeated Texas A&M International in straight sets on Thursday night to remain undefeated through five weeks of play, sweeping each match along the way.

Both of Loyola's Overwatch and Smash Bros. teams will face off with Blinn College next week. Overwatch's match is set for Wednesday, at 7:30 p.m., with the Smash Bros. match starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Loyola's esports matches will be live-streamed on twitch.tv/loynoesports. 

After Incineroar got the first win of the match for Texas A&M International, Malachi Lee entered the match to bring Loyola even, 2-1. As Terry, Lee defeated both Robin (3-0) and Sephiroth (3-0) without losing a stock. Lee traded stocks with TAMIU's Kazuya, leaving the opponents with one stock to spare in the first crew battle. Anthony Nodolski landed Loyola the crew battle victory after a 1-2 victory over Kazuya.

Nodolski's Olimar stayed in the ring to start the second set. This time, Nodolski defeated Incineroar, 3-1. TAMIU brought in its own Terry, taking down Nodolski with one stock remaining, 2-2. After Lee brought down Terry in a ditto match, the sophomore defeated Kazuya in a 3-2 fight, forcing TAMIU's last fighter. After Lee traded stocks with Robin, Lucian Payne's Wolf secured the win for the Pack, knocking out Robin, 2-1.
