Men’s golf begins Dunning Invitational Monday

WEST POINT, Miss. – The Loyola Wolf Pack men's golf team is up against a field of mostly NCAA Division II squads this week, taking part in Delta State's Dunning Invitational today and Tuesday at Mossy Oak Golf Club. The Pack ended Day 1 of the competition in 10th place out of 14 teams with a 615 (+39) total score. 
 

Midwestern State (-3), UT Tyler (-2) and Valdosta State (-1) are the clear Top 3 on the team leaderboard, as Fort Lewis (+11), Delta State (+12), Mississippi College (+16), Montevallo (+17), Henderson State (+22) and Arkansas-Monticello (+35) sit ahead of Loyola with 18 holes to play on Tuesday. 
 

Trey Ponce and Peter Weirich lead the Wolf Pack in 18th and 19th place, respectively. Ponce started the day with a first-round 73 (+1) before his after 74 (+2) brought the junior to his 3-over tournament score. Weirch carded a 75 (+3) during his morning round, then shot a 73 (+1) to help the freshman move up the leaderboard at 4-over. 
 

Cole Haase (+15), Cristobal Salome (+17) and Preston Giroir (+20) are in 60th, 62nd and 68th place, respectively.
