MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Junior competitive cheer student-athlete TaLaija Allen was honored by the Southern States Athletic Conference on Monday, as she earned a spot on the conference's Scholar-Athlete Team for her efforts in competition and the classroom.Â

To be eligible, student-athletes must be a sophomore or above in both academic and athletic standing, must be starters or important reserves, have at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA and have competed in 50 percent of competitions. Graduate students are not eligible, and transfers must have completed one semester at the school.

Allen's SSAC awards include a spot on the SSAC All-Academic Team and the SSAC Champions of Character Team. She competed on a Wolf Pack team that took first place in two competitions this season - the first coming in a tri-competition at Xavier's Battle in the Big Easy and the second at Mobile's Ram Showdown.Â

The Lutcher, Louisiana, native has a 3.48 GPA as a Psychology major.Â
