Balinbin named SSAC Scholar Athlete

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Southern States Atheltic Conference announced its Scholar-Athlete Team on Thursday, and junior Alex Balinbin was honored on the seven-member squad for his efforts in competition and in the classroom. 
 

"Alex is hardworking, well rounded in the classroom and on the mat, a team player, and someone that embodies the core values of the team," Loyola competitive cheer coach Courtney Cadore said. "He joined the team last spring and has been the glue of the team since. He is someone who always steps up in the big moments and delivers when it counts the most. He always wants the best for the team and his selflessness is greatly appreciated."
 

To be eligible, student-athletes must be a sophomore or above in both academic and athletic standing, must be starters or important reserves, have at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA and have competed in 50 percent of competitions. Graduate students are not eligible, and transfers must have completed one semester at the school.
 

The New Orleans native was one of four Wolf Pack cheerleaders to be named to the SSAC All-Conference team last month, also claiming a spot on the SSAC All-Academic team. Balinbin and the Wolf Pack saw a huge improvement this season, too, setting program-best scoring marks a couple of times throughout the year, including a 88.4 score at the SSAC Championship. On top of his successful on the competition floor, Balinbin has a 3.55 GPA as a management major.
