Loyola cheer competes at SSAC Championship

DECATUR, Ala. – The Loyola University New Orleans competitive cheer team competed in the Southern States Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday, recording a historic day for the program. Loyola placed fourth out of nine teams, totaling a score of 88.4 to record the best score in program history. 
 

Florida Memorial won the Championship with a score of 93.91, followed by UT Southern (93.36) and Mobile (89.74) ahead of the Pack. 
 

Loyola improved its placement and score from last season's SSAC Championship when the team finished in fifth place with a score of 66.10. The Wolf Pack's previous best score at the SSAC Championship came in 2020 when they finished in third place with a score of 83.5. 
 

On Friday night, the SSAC announced its All-Conference Team, honoring Alex Balinbin, Alyvia Pierson, Gabbi Kliebert and Sydney Brasseux. Loyola was one of four teams with at least four on the all-conference squad as well. Balinbin, TaLaija Allen, Mia Saldivar, Zoe Schmit and Sara Tujague earned spots on the SSAC All-Academic Team, and Mya Keys was Loyola's representative on the SSAC Champions of Character Team.     

Loyola and seven other teams took part in Friday's SSAC Roundup ahead of Saturday's competition. The Wolf Pack placed fourth in that event with a score of 80.43.
