NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola University New Orleans competitive cheer team opened the 2026 season on Thursday in a crowded field at Xavier University's Battle in the Big Easy.Â

One of eight teams participating at Xavier's Convocation Center, Loyola won both of its two matchups on Thursday.Â

The Wolf Pack cheer team finished first among five teams in the first matchup of the day with a score of 81.45, followed by St. Xavier (Ill.) and Our Lady of the Lake (Texas), who both finished with scores in the high 70s, and Texas A&M Texarkana and University of Health Science and Pharmacy finishing fourth and fifth with scores around 60.Â

Loyola's routine scored higher in their second competition on Thursday, garnering a score of 84.10. That score was good enough to finish first among four teams: Our Lady of the Lake, Simpson University, and Texas A&M Texarkana.

Loyola has two remaining competitions before the weekend of the SSAC Championship. Next on the schedule for the Wolf Pack cheer team is the Life University Classic, held on Sunday, February 15, in Marietta, Ga.Â
