Men’s golf leads Wolf Pack Spring Invitational

NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola University New Orleans men's golf team had a pretty good first day of their home tournament on Monday, as it leads the Wolf Pack Spring Invitational by seven strokes over second-place Blue Mountain Christian. 
 

With 18 holes to play on Tuesday, the team carded rounds of 295 and 292 to finish Day 1 with an 11-over score, which is ahead of BMCU (+18), Tennessee Southern (+26), Spring Hill (+29), Millsaps (+35), Mobile (+41) and Brewton-Parker (+57) 
 

Arthur Mijic highlighted the day by ending the first two rounds all alone atop the individual leaderboard. He shot a two-round total of 141 (-3) to have a three-shot lead heading into the final day of the tournament. Michael Bullock is next in a tie for fifth place with a 146 (+2) total on Monday, and Max Kukuk makes it three in the Top 10 after shooting a 149 (+5) for his two rounds to sit tied for ninth. 
 

Mijic's day turned around as soon as he hit in the back nine of his first round, as he saw 3-over score heading to the 10th tee Monday morning. He birdied that par 4, then he had two more on the 15th and 16th to get back to even-par. He'd go on to finish with a 72 (E) before starting his second round. Mijic began the afternoon with a birdie but a double bogey on No. 4 had the junior at 1-over through six holes. He'd go on to card five straight birdies from the seventh through to the 11th holes to move down to 4-under, and he finish his round with six pars and a bogey to cap off the round of 69. 
 

Mijic's round of 69 and  3-under score are tied for the ninth and seventh-best marks in program history. 

both the 10th-best marks in program history for a tournament round. 
 

Bullock joined his teammate in the Top 5 after a stellar second round as well. The junior carded one birdie and four bogeys during his morning round of 75 (+3), but he followed that up with four birdies and three bogeys to also join his teammate under-par with a second-round score of 71 (-1). 
 

Kukuk had a strong start to his tournament, which began on the third hole of the course. After three straight pars, he birdied the sixth and seventh holes to drop down to 2-under. Then three bogeys, two birdies and eight pars finished off his first-round 71 (-1). Kukuk started his second round 2-under through seven, but a tough back nine moved the freshman to 6-over by the end of his round to finish with a 78 (+6). 
 

There were only six rounds under par from the field throughout the two rounds on Monday, and three of those came from Mijic, Bullock and Kukuk. 
 

Preston Giroir is next on the leaderboard in a tie for 14th place with rounds of 77 (+5) and 74 (2), and Trey Ponce is in a tie for 25th with two 78s on Monday. 
 

Cameron Bruce led the Loyola B team with rounds of 74 (+2) and 81 (+9) to sit in a tie for 20th with a two-round total of 155 (+11). Chase May and Cade Scarborough improved their days during their second rounds, too. After each golfer had a first-round 82 (+10), May bounced back with a 76 (+4) in the afternoon and Scarborough was close behind with a 77 (+5). May finds himself in a tie for 31st while Scarborough is tied for 35th, and Jacob Brand is in 48th place after rounds of 88 (+16) and 83 (+11).
