Beach volleyball drops two close matches at Southern Miss tournament

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Loyola beach volleyball dropped both their duals against University of Mobile and Nicholls State University Friday to begin the Beachburg Invitational at Southern Miss. 

Against Mobile, the Wolf Pack initially displayed promise with a 2-0 advantage in the match. Samantha Ingram and Juliet Petruzelli at the number four flight won 21-14, 14-21, 15-12. Isabella Rodrigue and Emily Sheperis at the number five flight picked up a win as well 21-18, 18-21, 16-14. However, Loyola couldn't secure the third dual point resulting in a 3-2 loss.

Facing Division I Nicholls State for a third time this season in the second match of the day, the No. 4 flight of Ingram and Petruzelli again secured the first dual point, 12-21, 22-20, 15-7, becoming the sole undefeated pair for Loyola today. Despite dropping dual points from 3 and 5, flights 1 and 2 were battling hard in third sets. The No.1 duo of Kala Emanuelli and Samantha Guillotte pulled out a win 16-21, 21-17, 15-11, but Nicholls had already won the match, with it ending as a 3-2 result. 

On Saturday, the Wolf Pack will play at 9 a.m. against the host of the tournament, NCAA Division-I Southern Miss, followed by a match at 1 p.m. against Division-II Spring Hill College.
