WEST POINT, Miss. – The Loyola University New Orleans men's golf team started the BMCU Spring Classic with 36 holes on Monday, and the Wolf Pack sit in ninth place out of 14 teams. Up against four ranked teams in the NAIA Top 25, the Pack collectively carded a two-round total of 625 (+49) with 18 holes to play on Tuesday.
Loyola and the field battled high winds throughout the day, as only two teams finished the day with two rounds of sub-300.
No. 1 Dalton State and No. 12 Point University are tied for the team lead at +13, while the hosts Blue Mountain Christian sits in third with a +15 score. No. 22 Southwestern Christian (+21), No. 17 William Carey (+22), Central Baptist (+36), Bethel University (+41) and Tennessee Southern (+46) make up the leaderboard ahead of Loyola.
Arthur Mijic leads the team in a tie for 26th place with a two-round score of 154 (+10). He started his day with a 76 before an afternoon round of 78. The junior had four birdies on his card during his first round, then his second round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5, 12th.
Preston Giroir was next for the Pack in a tie for 34th, shooting scores of 76 and 81 for a two-round total of 157 (+13). Trey Ponce was not far behind in a tie for 42nd with rounds of 78 and 80 (158, +14). Max Kukuk shot 80s during both his rounds to sit tied for 48th (160, +16), and Logan Peterson bounced back after a first-round 84 to shoot a 77 in the afternoon to be tied for 52nd (161, +17).
