Beach volleyball plays perfect in two wins Friday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Loyola Beach Volleyball team departs Hattiesburg, Miss. with two additional conference victories, bringing their conference standing to 6-1. The Pack's conference record is good enough for second place out of the 11 teams in the Sun Conference, only trailing Ave Maria, which is 7-0. 

 

The first match Friday against St. Andrews University was a quick 5-0 sweep. The only changes to Loyola's lineup from last weekend was a new No. 5 pairing: senior Emily Sheperis and sophomore Gabby Masiello, who won 21-15, 21-18. 

 

The second match against Truett McConnell University was delayed three hours due to lightning in the area, pushing the start time back from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., over five hours after the conclusion of the day's first match. Despite these conditions, Loyola showed their dominance by taking another 5-0 sweep. 

 

The No, 1, 3, and 4 Wolf Pack pairs (Kala Emanuelli/Samantha Guillotte, Preslie Boswell/Rosemary Vanney, and Samantha Ingram/Juliet Petruzelli) all won their matches without dropping a set. The No. 2 pair of Madeline Corral and Juliana Pacini toughed out three-set wins in both matches, as did Masiello and Sheperis in the Truett match.

 

Loyola also won both court 6 exhibition matches in straight sets, with Kiarelis Martinez and Isabella Rodrigue both winning while paired up with Melanie Tassin. 

 

The Wolf Pack will travel to Gulf Shores, Ala. next weekend to play three more Sun Conference teams: No. 5-ranked Webber International, Warner University, Southeastern (Fla).
