Beach volleyball splits matches in Florida

AVE MARIA, Fla. – Loyola Beach Volleyball split its two Sun Conference matches on Friday, securing a 4-1 victory against St. Thomas and falling to Ave Maria 2-3.

Loyola is now 4-4 on the season, with a 3-1 start to Sun Conference action.

Against St. Thomas, the Wolf Pack made a strong start with a 2-0 lead by collecting wins from flights 2 (Juliet Petruzelli and Emily Sheperis) and 4 (Preslie Boswell and Rosemary Vanney). The decisive point came from court 5, where freshman Melanie Tassin and sophomore Kiarelis Martinez clinched the duel 21-11, 21-14. Shortly after, the No.1 flight pair of Samantha Guillotte and Juliana Pacini grabbed a win. 

For the second matchup against Ave Maria, the No. 4 spot, Boswell and Vanney, got the first point on the board 21-18, 21-17. The duo is now 6-2 with a six-game winning streak, and they're off to a 4-0 start in conference play. The second duel point came from the No. 1 pairing Guillotte and Pacini, 21-13, 18-21, 15-11. 

Looking ahead, Loyola Beach Volleyball aims for its fourth Sun Conference victory tomorrow against Florida Memorial at 12 p.m. EST.
