MOBILE, Ala. – The Loyola Wolf Pack men's golf team saw four golfers move up the leaderboard during Tuesday's third and final round of the University of Mobile's Ram Spring Invite. The team moved up, too, jumping up to third place with a three-round tournament score of 903 (+39).
No. 17 William Carey won the tournament with an 880 (+16) score and Trevecca Nazarene placed second just ahead of the Wolf Pack at 899 (+35). The 903 total strokes and the 39-over to-par score by the team are both the eighth-best marks in program history for a 54-hole tournament as well.
Logan Peterson led Loyola with a tied-for-thrid finish, carding an even-par 72 on Tuesday to finish his week with a 220 (+4) score. The senior sat at 1-under through the majority of his first nine holes before collecting another birdie to drop down to 2-under through seven. Three bogeys and two birdies rounded out his scorecard the rest of the way to help him move up six spots on the individual leaderboard.
Tuesday also marked Peterson's third career Top 5 finish.
Michael Bullock, who began the day tied for ninth, held on to that position to remain in the Top 10. He broke out of a tie, though, sitting in ninth all alone with a 222 (+6) tournament score. After a rough start to his round, he picked up an eagle on the par-5 sixth, which was his third hole of the day, before finishing his first nine holes 4-over. His back nine was much more consistent with seven pars and two birdies to card a 74 (+2).
Max Kukuk had the biggest jump of the entire field, carding the lowest third-round score of all competitors on Tuesday with a 69 (-3) to move up 21 spots into a tie for 19th (230, +14). The freshman started his day with a birdie, then recorded two more before his first nine holes were finished, then an eagle on the par-5 16th, which was his 11th hole, moved him to as low as 4-under. He'd go on to card five more pars and another birdie, but a double bogey mixed in hurt his chances for an even lower score.
Kukuk's round of 69 is tied for the ninth-best individual round by a Wolf Pack men's golfer, and his 3-under to-par score is tied for the seventh-best.
Trey Ponce finished his tournament with a 76 on Tuesday, finishing the week with a 234 (+18) score to place in a tie for 25th. Preston Giroir moved up a couple of spots, too, shooting the same score as Ponce to end the week with a 242 (+26) score in a tie for 42nd.
Loyola is back in action March 11-12 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, as the team will take part in the Carey Collegiate at Canebrake Country Club.
