Beach volleyball wins two at home to start conference play 2-0

KENNER, La.  – The Loyola Wolf Pack beach volleyball team is off to a 2-0 start in the Sun Conference schedule after winning a pair of home matches on Saturday at Coconut Beach, with one of the wins coming over a top 10-ranked opponent.

Heading to Florida next week, the Wolf Pack (3-3, 2-0 SUN) will continue the conference slate in three matches hosted by Ave Maria. A doubleheader on Friday, March 1 will see Loyola taking on the hosts Ave Maria as well as St. Thomas (Fla.), followed by a match against Florida Memorial at noon on March 2.  

The Pack began the home doubleheader facing the William Carey Crusaders, scoring a 3-2 win in the team's first home match of the season. Another 3-2 triumph followed, as the home team took down the NAIA's No. 10-ranked team in the Mobile Rams. 

After two match victories last Saturday, Preslie Boswell and Rosemary Vanney kept things going at flight 4, winning in straight sets against Carey. Madeline Corrall and Samantha Ingram also kept up their momentum, taking their match on court 3 without losing a set. A close three-setter on court 1 saw Samantha Guillotte and Juliana Pacini both getting their first win of the season, taking out WCU's No. 1 pair after dropping the first set but coming back to win 13-21, 21-18, 16-14.

The success continued for the No. 3 and 4 Wolf Pack pairs in the second match of the day, as Loyola matched up with its first ranked team of the season. The matches were closer this time, but Boswell and Vanney again won in straight sets, giving them a four-match winning streak. Corrall and Ingram are also on a win streak, knocking out their Ram opponents 16-21, 21-15, 15-12 to give them three wins in a row. Then, competing together for the first time this season, Kiarelis Martinez and Isabella Rodrigue earned a three-set victory as the No. 5 pair, winning 21-17, 20-22, 15-11.
