Beach volleyball begins season Friday

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The Loyola beach volleyball team kicked off their season by facing the reigning national champions in NCAA Division II, Hendrix College, and another opponent from Division III, Mary Hardin-Baylor. The team, however, took two defeats, resulting in a 0-2 start to their season.
 

In the early morning match against Hendrix, the Warriors secured a quick lead by claiming the first two points at the No. 5 and No. 4 positions. However, Madeline Corrall and Samantha Ingram fought back with a victory at the No. 3 position, winning 21-17, 21-14. Kala Emanuelli and Samantha Guillotte displayed resilience, clinching a hard-fought win at the No. 1 position in three sets: 21-13, 16-21 and 15-9. The deciding dual point rested on Juliet Petruzelli and Juliana Pacini at the No. 2 position, but they came up short 24-22 in their second set gave Hendrix College the win, 3-2. 
 

Following a lengthy seven-hour wait to compete against Mary Hardin-Baylor, Loyola began its match in the dark. Unfortunately, they were not able to secure a victory, ultimately losing 5-0. Notably, Rosemary Vanney and Preslie Boswell engaged in a closely contested battle at the No.4 flight, with the match ending at 21-23, 18-21.
 

The Wolf Pack (0-2) will look for their first win of the season tomorrow in their matches against East Texas Baptist and Huntingdon College.
