Wolf Pack Overwatch cruises to victory Tuesday

NEW ORLEANS –.The Wolf Pack competed in three matches during the week, starting with a victory by Loyola's unbeaten Overwatch team over UNC Greensboro on Tuesday. Loyola's Smash Bros. squads competed Thursday night with the Premier team falling in the Last Chance Qualifiers against Oakland University. The Plus team took the University of Jamestown to three sets before losing, 2-1.

The undefeated Overwatch squad will close out the regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 5 against North Carolina A&T State University at 6 p.m. The Smash Bros. Plus team will compete in the regular-season finale on Thursday, Nov. 7, taking on Mid-America Christian University at 6 p.m. Wolf Pack fans can tune into the action at https://www.twitch.tv/loynoesports with the Super Smash Bros. The Wolf Pack began Tuesday's Overwatch match against UNC Greensboro on Lijiang Tower. UNCG struck first in the game, taking a 75% lead before the Wolf Pack could capture the point with the help of kills from Dashiell Hazzard and Matthew Marshall. Despite Loyola closing the scoring gap, UNCG closed out round one to take a victory, 100-83.

The Maroon and Gold showed out in the second round, starting with two kills from Rexford Kaase's Zenyatta and another elimination from Marshall's Junker Queen. As the Wolf Pack approached a win, UNCG did its best to take back the point, but a team kill from Loyola sealed the win. Marshall got two kills with his ultimate, while Mark Violante and Maya Hernandez each picked up an elimination, and Hazzard got the fifth kill to get the win.

After Loyola took a 73% lead to start round three, UNCG found its footing to take the objective. The Wolf Pack, however, did not allow the opponents to take a lead, securing the set with a Deadeye from Violante's Cassidy.

To start the second set, Loyola took a 3-0 lead by taking the payload to the end of the track on the attacker's side. Despite Loyola's best efforts to hold on defensively, UNCG managed to capture the payload and match Loyola's score, 3-3. UNCG stayed on the attacker's side for round three, but Loyola managed to make a stop after the Spartans got the payload moving. Back on the offensive end, the Pack rolled through the Greensboro defense to take a two-set lead.

In the third set, Loyola kept the ball rolling on Suravasa. This time, Loyola never gave up any points to its opponent, capturing each objective to win the set and the match, 3-0. The Wolf Pack achieved its sixth straight victory for a 6-0 record, the best record in the East 5 conference. 
 

Lucian Payne was a highlight in the Smash Bros. Plus match against Jamestown, picking up four wins on the night. Payne's Wolf started off the first set with a win, then defeated two straight opponents to help secure the second set for the Pack. Payne also managed a 1-0 win in the final set, defeating Jamestown's Link.
