Loyola Esports wins every match this week

NEW ORLEANS – The Wolf Pack earned wins in Overwatch, Call of Duty, and Super Smash Bros. this week. The Overwatch team got its second win of the season in a 3-0 sweep of Atlantic University on Tuesday night. Wolf Pack Call of Duty captured the first win of the season on Wednesday against Missouri Southern State University. On Thursday, the Smash Premier team swept Texas A&M International University to take a win. The Smash Plus team also won, taking a third-set tie-breaker over Talladega College.

The Pack will face off against Olivet Nazarene University on Monday at 6:30 p.m. in Overwatch. Then, the Call of Duty squad will meet Nichols College for a match on Wednesday at 6 p.m. To end the week, Loyola will take on Dallas Baptist University and Lubbock Christian University on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Smash Premier and Plus, respectively. Starting on Lijiang Tower, the Wolf Pack Overwatch squad collected two consecutive victories to take a one-set lead. Matthew Marshall played tank for Loyola, while Dashiell Hazzard and Mark Violante played damage, and Stirling Downes and Maya Hernandez held down the support. On Blizzard World, the Loyola began by preventing Atlantic University from capturing any part of the objective, making round two an easy win to head into the third set, 2-0. Competing on the Flashpoint map, Suravasa, Atlantic started to challenge the Wolf Pack tying the map score at 2-2. Despite Atlantic's best efforts, Loyola stayed strong through the final objective to win the match.

The Call of Duty team earned its first win of the season Wednesday against Missouri Southern State. On Hardpoint, the Pack outscored MSSU, 250-122, with Brandon Brewer getting the final kill to take the first set. Loyola started off Search and Destroy with a 3-0 lead before Missouri Southern State took its first round to make the score 3-1. The Wolf Pack then won the next two rounds to stretch the lead, 5-1. Shortly after, Loyola took the final round to win, 6-2. Jamie Zimmerman led all players in round two with 20 kills. In a best-of-five for the final set, Control, the Wolf Pack continued to dominate with Ian Antequera and Wilhelmina Roccaforte-Kostecky combining for 10 kills. Loyola cruised through the final set to get its first win of the season.

In the Smash Bros. Premier match against Texas A&M International, Malachi Lee led the Pack with four-straight victories over two sets, taking ten stocks from his opponents, while only losing three stocks of his own. In the Plus match against Talladega College, Daven-Angelo Montalbano got four wins with three of those being consecutive. Montalbano secured the second set with a win, then took down another two opponents in set three to give Loyola an early lead in the tie-breaker.
