Men’s Golf competes in Mississippi

GULFPORT, Miss. – Peter Weirich sits in the Top 5 on the individual leaderboard and Loyola is in fifth place out of 17 teams after 36 holes of the MGCCC Fall Invitational on Monday. The Wolf Pack had rounds of 297 and 308 to get to their 29-over score, while MGCCC and Central Alabama both lead the field by 2-over scores. Jefferson State (+20) and Meridian (+23) sit ahead of Loyola on the team leaderboard in third and fourth. 
 

Weirich started his day well with a 2-under, 70 first round. After a bogey on his first hole, the freshman recorded three pars and three birdies to quickly drop down to 2-under. A double bogey cost him a couple of strokes on the eighth hole, but he finished the round with three more birdies, six pars and a bogey. Weirich collected three more birdies during his afternoon round on his way to his second-round 75 (+3). 
 

Weirich is tied with three others in fourth place, sitting one stroke behind the third position, two strokes behind second, and four behind the leader. 
 

Cristobal Salome had a solid day, but with a crowded leaderboard, the freshman is tied for 39th at 10-over through the two rounds. His first-round 79 (+7) featured more up-and-down play, but he rebounded nicely with his 75 (+3) in the afternoon to sit four strokes outside the Top 20. 
 

Both Arthur Mijic and Cole Haase are one stroke behind their teammate in a tie for 47th (+11), and Trey Ponce is in 61st (+14) to finish Loyola's scoring.
