Men’s golf competes in Tennessee

VONORE, Tenn. – The Loyola University New Orleans men's golf team capped off Tennessee Wesleyan's Bojangles Fall Classic on Sunday, as senior Arthur Mijic highlighted the day en route to his fourth Top 10 finish of his Wolf Pack career. 
 

The Lille, France, native entered the final round on Sunday outside the Top 20 on the individual leaderboard with a 7-over score, but his third-round 66 (-6) shot him up into a tie for sixth place. Mijic's six-under to-par score broke a seven-year-old program record by one stroke. 
 

Mijic's play got better as the tournament went on, carding rounds of 77 and 74 on Saturday before his Loyola career-best of 66 on Sunday. Starting his round on the eighth hole, he recorded five straight pars before his first of eight birdies throughout the day. Mijic sat a 1-under through eight holes, then he made four consecutive birdies to drop down to 5-under. Three more birdies and two bogeys closed out his 66 round, which will go down as the second-best 18-hole total score round in Wolf Pack men's golf history. 
 

He finished the tournament with a 217 (+1) total score, and that's good enough for the sixth-best 54-hole total and to-par score in program history. 
 

Peter Weirich also made a big jump on the leaderboard, finishing in 27th place with a 229 (+13) tournament score. After rounds of 79 and 77 on Saturday, he shot a 1-over 73 to close out his weekend. The freshman was 1-under after his first three holes but sat a 2-over after his first nine holes. Two birdies and three bogeys moved him to 3-over after 15 holes, then a birdie-birdie-par finish ended his impressive day. 
 

Cristobal Salome was next for the Wolf Pack in 44th place (235, +19), and Trey Ponce (239, +23) and Michael Bullock (240, +24) followed. 
 

As a team, Loyola placed eighth out of 12 with a 916 (+52) tournament score. No. 16 Coastal Georgia won the event at 1-under, and No. 1 Dalton State (+16) and Blue Mountain (+23) followed in the Top 3. The Pack is next scheduled to play in the MGCCC FAll Invitational at Windance Country Club in Gulfport, Mississippi, Oct. 28-29.
