ATHENS, Ala. – The Loyola Wolf Pack men's golf team finished their first team tournament of the season this week with four in the Top 20 of the Firehawk Invite, as the team tied for fourth out of nine teams. The Pack collectively shot a 602 (+26) during the two rounds, and Logan Peterson, Preston Giroir, Michael Bullock and Trey Ponce all helped the scoring by finishing tied for 19th or better.
Loyola improved its scoring from the first round, too, carding a 297 (+9) after a first-round 305 (+17). Peterson led the team with a T-10th-place finish with a two-day score of 149 (+5).
Presto Giroir was the big mover of the day for the Wolf Pack, jumping up 11 spots on the leaderboard after a team-tournament-low 71 (-1) on Tuesday. He started his round on the sixth tee, and made one birdie and six pars through his first seven holes. He bogeyed the 13th then finished his round with nine pars and a birdie to finish his tournament tied for 12th place.
Peterson started his day on the fourth tee and carded a birdie, four bogeys and a double during his first nine holes. Sitting at 5-over on the day, Peterson ended his day nicely with three birdies and two bogeys to finish his round of 76 (+4). Michael Bullock, who finished tied for 14th, had a pretty consistent day besides one blemish on his card. He'd go on to have 15 pars throughout the round, but a triple bogey on the 11th brought him to his 77 (+5).
Trey Ponce had three birdies on his card and shot a 73 (+1) to help the Pack's scoring. He moved up four spots on the leaderboard as well, ending the tournament tied for 19th. Max Kukuk had a second-round 78 to place tied for 34th.
Next up for the Pack is the Memphis Shootout at TPC Southwind on Oct. 9-10.
