Eight total receive SSAC postseason honors

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Southern States Athletic Conference announced its postseason awards Monday night, and eight different members of the Loyola Wolf Pack women's golf team were honored in the process. Catherine Singletary, Lainey Cristan, Blair McKenzie and Emma Smithers all made the SSAC All-Conference Second Team, while Singletary also earned a spot on the SSAC All-Freshman Team. 
 

Cristan and McKenzie were also joined by Aidan McLachlan, Kaitlyn Montoya, Daniella Salazar and Shelby Walls on the SSAC All-Academic Team, and Walls was Loyola's representative on the SSAC Champions of Character Team. 
 

Singletary started her collegiate career with four straight Top 5 finishes in stroke play tournaments. The freshman tied for fourth in the Carey Collegiate Fall Classic in September and was all alone in second place at the WCU Gulf Shores Invitational a month later. Then she took fifth place in both the Ram Spring Invite in February and the Wolf Pack Invitational in March. Her low round of the year came in the first tournament of the year, carding a second-round 70 for the fifth-best round score in program history, and her tournament score of 223 at the same tournament - the Carey Collegiate - was the seventh-best total score in program history. Singletary is currently ranked 60th in the Golfstat.com NAIA Women's Individual rankings with a 76.33 adjusted scoring average.  
 

Cristan, who earned a spot on the SSAC All-Freshman Team last season, is the 69th-ranked NAIA golfer in the Golfstat.com individual rankings with a 78 adjusted scoring average. She earned her first Top 10 finish in the second tournament of the year in October, finishing in ninth at the WCU Gulf Shores Invitational in October. The sophomore added an eighth-place finish in March at Loyola's Wolf Pack Invitational as well, as her third-round score of 71 is tied for the 10th-best round score in program history. 
 

After also making the SSAC All-Freshman Team last season, McKenzie had four Top 10 finishes to start her sophomore campaign with the first coming in Gulf Shores in October. She placed in a tie for seventh at that event, then recorded an eighth-place and 10th-place finish at the Ram Spring Invite and the Wolf Pack Invitational this spring. The sophomore saved her best performance for last, though, placing in a tie for fourth place at the Argonaut Invitational in April. She's currently ranked 75th with a 77.60 adjusted scoring average as an individual in the Golfstat.com rankings. 
 

Smithers, who is ranked 92nd with a 78.13 adjusted scoring average in those same rankings, started the season well with three straight Top 10 finishes and one Top 5. She started the season with a seventh-place effort at the Carey Collegiate tournament in September, then placed in a tie for third in Gulf Shores a month later. Smithers added a seventh-place finish at the Ram Spring Invite in the first tournament of the spring semester as well, and her 9-over score at William Cary's fall tournament was tied for the 10th-best 54-hole tournament score in program history. 
 

It's Smithers' fourth straight season to earn an All-SSAC nod, too.
