Beach volleyball upsets No. 7 William Carey

MOBILE, Ala. – After 10 days of no matches, the Loyola University New Orleans beach volleyball team returned to action in Mobile, Ala. for matches against the University of Mobile and No. 7-ranked William Carey in the Sun Conference Northwest Pod tournament. 

 

The Wolf Pack lost the first match of the day, 4-1 against Mobile, but came back in a big way in the second match, taking down Carey 3-2. It's Loyola's first win against a top-10 ranked team.

 

Loyola is now 7-10 so far this season, 3-4 in Sun Conference matches. 

 

Brittany Cooper and Samantha Ingram had the lone win in the Mobile match, coming back from a set down to win 20-22, 21-13, 15-9 at flight 3. They prevailed again in the WCU match, winning 21-16, 21-12. Cooper and Ingram have won the majority of their matches this season, now with a 12-5 overall record thus far. 

 

Gabby Masiello and Elizabeth Prado also got a straight-sets win in the Carey match, 21-16, 21-9 at flight 4, and Emily Sheperis and Kiarelis Martinez had the quickest win of the day for the Pack, dispatching their opponents 21-8, 21-16 in just 26 minutes. 

 

Loyola is slated to play two more matches against William Carey on Friday in Hattiesburg, Miss. Friday's action is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
